DAIRY FARM HERDSMAN
Description:
Ronnybrook Farm Dairy began in 1941 with a small herd of dairy cows. Today we milk around 80 Holstein cows in Ancramdale, NY, and we own and operate our own processing facility. Our cows are pastured for the entire growing season, and milked in a tie-stall barn. We bottle all our own milk on site, and we make award winning chocolate milk, yogurt, butter, ice cream, crème fraiche, and eggnog for the holidays.
We are looking for a motivated, skilled individual to work as our dairy farm herdsman. This is a very important position for our business since we rely on our supply of high-quality milk from our own herd for processing. This person will be responsible for all activities surrounding the management of our herd of Holstein cattle. This includes herd health, reproduction, calves and heifers, pasture management, milking management, record keeping, and supervising two Hispanic employees. This is a full time position with benefits available. Compensation will be negotiated.
Example Roles and Responsibilities:
- Maintain overall good herd health – includes disease control, mastitis management, etc.
- Create and maintain protocol for calves and heifers to ensure healthy growth
- Establish and maintain system for keeping excellent records of all herd activity
- Increase milk production
- Understand and manage cleaning of all milking equipment including CIP systems
- Improve pasture quality through maintenance and nutrient testing
Qualifications:
- High school education required
- College education preferred
- Experience working and managing dairy cattle required
- Spanish speaking preferred
- Self-motivated
- Willingness to relocate if necessary
- Must be a team player with a positive attitude
